About the Client
The Net-Zero Advisory Body (NZAB), established in 2021 as part of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation's climate action strategies through evidence-based advice to the government and engagement with Canadians.
Overview
In collaboration with the Net-Zero Advisory Body (NZAB), we undertook a comprehensive website revamp. As part of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), NZAB guides Canada's journey toward net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Our task was to complete an urgent transformation within 10 weeks—upgrading from an outdated content management system to a user-friendly, accessible platform that clearly communicates Canada's path to net-zero emissions.
Using a collaborative approach, innovative no-code solutions, and a focus on inclusivity and accessibility, we created a website that both informs and inspires action for a sustainable future. The result demonstrates how digital transformation can amplify vital messages about climate action and Canada's path to net-zero emissions.
Goals
Our primary goal was to create a new bilingual, accessible website for NZAB. The key objectives were threefold: to implement a dynamic CMS that staff could easily update, to transform technical content into inspiring and engaging material, and to establish a distinct visual identity—separate from the Government of Canada's style—that would reflect NZAB's independence and commitment to ambitious climate action.
Challenges
The project faced two significant challenges. The first was migrating NZAB from their outdated CMS to a modern, intuitive platform that would give users better access and control—all within a demanding 10-week timeline. This required precise project management and swift execution. The second challenge was translating complex climate data into clear, engaging content that would connect with diverse audiences.
Process
Despite conservative initial design expectations, we developed an ambitious and visually compelling approach aligned with NZAB's mission. The resulting website delivers a seamless bilingual experience through two separate URLs, ensuring full accessibility for both English and French-speaking users.
Key project components:
• Regular co-creation sessions with the client to incorporate their vision and feedback
• Comprehensive audit of the existing site and industry competitors
• Development of a fresh visual design drawing from both climate and non-climate sectors, including detailed mockups and mood boards
• Design of intuitive information architecture and user experience wireframes
• Implementation using Webflow's no-code platform for rapid development
• Full compliance with WCAG 2.0/AA accessibility standards
• Deployment across two separate URLs for seamless bilingual content management
Results
The transition to a user-friendly and accessible CMS gave NZAB greater control and flexibility over their website. Through efficient project management and innovative no-code development, we delivered a high-quality product within the ambitious 10-week deadline. The transformed content made NZAB's mission more engaging and accessible, turning complex technical information into an inspiring resource. Our collaborative approach built a strong working relationship with the client, ensuring aligned design goals and delivering a website that exceeded expectations. The bilingual launch in English and French ensures broader reach and inclusivity for Canada's diverse population.
The final product not only meets NZAB's functional needs but also enhances their ability to communicate effectively, engage stakeholders, and inspire climate action toward Canada's net-zero goals.
